Contemporary painting
from memory and nature.
The works of Claudia Velásquez, joy and optimism unfold as central themes, stemming from a deeply rooted need to make her personal perception of the environment visible. Her work consciously connects to the cultural and spiritual traditions of her indigenous Colombian heritage, whose affinity for nature and cosmological perspectives serve as conceptual guidelines.
Artistic practice
Claudia works with oil and mixed media on canvas. Her painting moves between suggested figuration and abstraction, always guided by colour.
Based on this foundation, she develops pictorial compositions that reinterpret everyday scenes from various communities: girls by the river, fishermen at work, Wayuu women weaving, gold prospectors in their tranquil, repetitive rhythm, and free-flying birds as connecting elements between heaven and earth. These motifs function as visual metaphors for harmony, collective memory, and the enduring relationship between humanity and landscape.
