Claudia Velásquez · Visual artist
A painting practice grounded in colour, memory and landscape.
Claudia Velásquez is a Colombian visual artist whose work moves between suggested figuration and abstraction. Her practice emerges from a dialogue between colour, light and the landscapes she inhabits, both in Colombia and abroad.
Birds, leaves, bodies and fragments of landscape appear on her canvases, layered in paint and built up as intimate spaces for contemplation.

“Painting is a place one returns to: a territory where colour holds the memory of what has been lived.”
Practice and process
Claudia works mainly with oil, acrylic and mixed media on canvas. Gesture, transparency and glazing are central to her process: layers are added, erased and rewritten until a balance between intensity and silence appears.
Her series are in dialogue with Colombian landscapes —forests, mountains, seas—, with the human figure and with the journeys she has made between cities and countries. Each painting is a fragment of those trajectories: a memory transformed through colour.
In recent years she has developed projects that combine painting, drawing and colour studies, exploring both intimate formats and large-scale works.
Lines of work
Her work is currently organised into three main lines that intersect at different moments and projects.
-
NatureBirds, foliage, water and sky that echo the diversity of tropical landscapes —not as literal representation but as the sensation of being there.
-
FiguresBodies and gestures that appear and disappear between layers of colour. The human figure is suggested rather than described, inviting viewers to complete the scene.
-
AbstractionSuperimposed layers of pigment that build spaces of calm and energy, functioning almost as interior landscapes.
